How to become a Bible Expert?

Proverbs 22:29
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before obscure men.

We seem content to stand before obscure men, but the path has been laid out in front of us. We have been given the tools to be experts in our work and our work is the Great Commission. Are we skilled in our work? When your paster tells you to turn to a chapter and verse do we know what it says before we turn? If a man makes Biblical reference every mature Christian should be aware of the reference being made and all its context.

My mission is to help every Christian become a Bible expert.

Veritasium means truth in Latin. He has become of the best pop scientists of our generation and I am a fan.

In the above, very well researched, video he lays out four things it takes to be an expert:

The first is many “repeated attempts with feedback.” Our app does this by asking you a question about a verse. It can ask where a word should be placed in the verse, or where the verse should be placed in the whole Bible, or where in the Bible a verse is located. The app then gives immediate feedback, were you right or wrong, this is step three. The feedback being instant is an important part of this process. We don’t wait till the end of the lesson, we give the feedback when it is most relevant.

The second was a valid environment because the Bible is stable and has barely changed in thousands of years it counts as a valid environment which means it is possible to be an expert. The true Bible experts don’t need to make things up they are able to quote directly and in context.

The last step in becoming an expert is don’t get comfortable. We have to constantly be pushing to the edge to the edge of your ability. If we gave you the same ten verses or only the verses you are already familiar with you would not be challenged. This app is designed to be somewhat uncomfortable, pushing you to the edge of your ability every time. We want people to grow and be experts not be rigidly attached to a couple of verses we learned decades ago.

This is not what we as Christians are used to. Many Christians look at the Bible as only for Sunday, for daily meditations, for prayers, or for winning specific arguments. That is not what this app is for. This app is not a replacement for daily meditations and is definitely not a replacement for you local church, and might not be as effective as you would think for winning arguments. This app is designed to give you a better foundation to understand sermons. To give you more ammunition when you are praying, Matt 4. To prepare you to give reason in season and out of season.

Thank you for your prayers and support
